Designpreis Halle 2010 - travel
Destination
Designpreis Halle thematizes travelling and reflects upon it in a multi-faceted way. The reasons are simple and evident: As everyone likes to travel, the chosen topic will appeal to many different people on an emotional as well as on an intellectual level. This includes potential competitors but also visitors to the exhibition. The topic is of high global and current significance; it can raise a host of ecological, economic, ethic and social questions and can lead to the most different applications and designs but also to theoretical and socio-cultural questions. Halle as an economic and cultural site has a favourable geographical position in Germany and in Europe. Designpreis Halle also intends to point to this fact. Another aim is to bring down borders between economy and design and to sharpen the senses for excellence in the design field. It means to create a profile for Halle as a "city of design". Designpreis Halle 2010 will consist of two parts: the competition and design tour. Good travelling weather is expected for the event dates between June 19 and July 4, 2010.
Travelling route
Competition
We are looking for courageous designs from all over the world that examine the topic in an intense and creative manner – be it product-oriented or process-oriented. It may include inventing new services, suggesting innovative action or user strategies but also designing useful products for travelling and visualising different scenarios.
The prize carries a value of Euro 5,000. It is intended to give young designers a platform to present their work to a wider public and to seek competition.
Award ceremony and exhibition
The historic tramway depot at Seebener Straße in Halle was chosen as a site of historic and topical relevance for the exhibition of the competition entries and the award ceremony on June 19, 2010. After all, Halle was the world´s first city with an electric tramway network!
An additional historic tram car will be placed on Halle´s market place. It will serve as a central advertising, information and communication point for the Designpreis. The works will be on display from June 19 to July 4, 2010.
Design tour
Historic buses from a local traffic company are transformed into so-called Design mobiles. Along a fixed route, they will transport the visitors to different design sites in Halle. There will be an accompanying tour guide, a special timetable and different bus stops. The chosen design sites will not only open their doors but will also present works particularly designed for the occasion. The special intention of the tour is to present designers and design institutions as well as finding potential clients for young designers. The tour is open on all weekends during the exhibition.
